inviting all artists to take part

During Camberwell Arts Festival we use every opportunity to showcase the incredible artistic talents within Camberwell for the wider public to see and appreciate, whether they are already resident in Camberwell or visiting.

The Alley Gallery is placed on a well-travelled route for pedestrians.

Hunter's Not for Sale signs will be placed all around Camberwell and its near neighbours promoting both the artists selected for them, and the Festival too.

This year we are offering a PUBLIC ART COMMISSION for artists to apply for.

alley gallery

We are inviting all artists to take part in the Alley Gallery that we mount onto the railings of Daneville Road (the pedestrianised section) for the duration of the Camberwell Arts Festival 2018.  Our Alley Gallery is open to the elements and we only use a print out of the artwork - not the real thing.

We are awaiting permission to this Al Fresco exhibition space, but assuming all goes well, if you want to take part click on the button below.

Hunter's not for sale boards

Once again Hunter's Estate Agents have sponsored Not for Sale boards to feature artists' work.  If your artwork is selected for one of these boards, it will be in one of the many residential streets in Camberwell - maybe outside your home if you request it.  The Not for Sale boards are displayed throughout Camberwell as part of the annual festival, and are a wonderful promotion for the Festival.

Apply to be on a Hunters board by clicking the button.

public art commission

We have been awarded a small grant through Southwark Council’s Neighbourhood Fund to create a public artwork for the Camberwell Green area.  See the brief below and how to enter your proposal.

CAMBERWELL GREEN PUBLIC ART COMMISSION BRIEF

Introduction:

Camberwell Arts is an independent charity that aims to promote the arts in Camberwell - and Camberwell through the arts.

We have been awarded a small grant of £1,667 through Southwark Council’s Neighbourhood Fund to create a public artwork for the Camberwell Green area.

Camberwell Green is both a major gateway to Camberwell and a residential area with a diverse population.  We would therefore like to commission a ‘gateway’ feature to mark a recognisable entry point to Camberwell, help create a sense of identity and get people talking about our vibrant arts scene.

We wish to appoint a contemporary artist or artists as the principal lead on the commission.

THE CAMBERWELL GREEN GATEWAY COMMISSION

The primary objectives of this commission are to:

·       Improve the aesthetic appeal of the Camberwell Green area

·       Create a ‘gateway’ or entry point that announces arrival at Camberwell and physically defines the local area

·       Helps to create a sense of identity for the area that is unique to it

·       Encourages a local sense of pride and ownership

·       Engages the local community with art in the public realm

Proposals are invited from artists working individually or collaboratively.  Artists at any stage of their career may apply and we particularly encourage applications from artists and art students living and working in the Camberwell area.

HOW TO APPLY

The parameters of what the gateway feature may constitute have been left open to allow for a creative approach to this brief.  To apply for this commission please send an email to camberwellartsfestival@gmail.com with the title COMMISSION in the subject line and include the following information -

·       A copy of your artist statement and / or CV

·       Up to 6 images of your work

·       A brief outline of your proposed public artwork, including where you would like to site it

Your outline should include:

·       How the work will relate to the local area and engage local people

·       Installation and maintenance requirements

·       A full budget breakdown

The envisaged lifespan of the commission is not less than 2 years.

BUDGET

The total amount available for the commission is £1,500 to include all fees and expenses, site visits, production and installation of the artwork.

Camberwell Arts will lead on securing all necessary permissions for installation of the artworks and contract with the successful applicants for delivery of the commissions.

Proposals must also take into account the fact that a low-maintenance solution to the brief is required and this should be reflected in your application, although responsibility for maintenance of the artwork will pass to Camberwell Arts on completion of installation.

TIMESCALE

The deadline for submitting proposals is 30th March 2018 with the successful artist/s informed by 16th April 2018.  The desired date for installation of the gateway feature is 7th June 2018 and applicants must provide a production and installation schedule within their proposal that demonstrates this is achievable.
