Camberwell Arts Festival 2008
14th – 22nd June 2008
A thiving local scene
The Camberwell Arts Festival is a celebration of the thriving cultural scene in London SE5 and its surrounding area. Once again in 2008, this week-long event will give emerging and established artists a platform to perform and show their work within the vibrant community of Camberwell.
For nine days, local residents and visitors to will be invited to experience an extensive programme of exhibitions, events, workshops, talks, walks, open studios, screenings, live art and family activities as Camberwell throws open its doors.
Camberwell 'Green'
Coinciding with Love Parks Week, this year's Festival takes art out onto the streets and into Camberwell's many green spaces. Camberwell Green creates a green art trail throughout Camberwell, presenting work on Camberwell Green, Ruskin Park, Lucas Gardens, private gardens and housing estates.
The Camberwell Arts Pub Crawl
From Karaoke to pub quizzes, the Camberwell Arts Pub Crawl will be a performance art trail taking place in some of Camberwell’s best loved pubs in order to showcase new work that explores the role of the pub in British cultural life.
Explore hidden Camberwell
People will also be invited to explore the local environment of Camberwell through a series of guided walks and talks. Walking themes will include local history, the environment, and architecture. Tours will also visit local artists in their studios as our creative neighbours throw open their doors during Open Studios weekend.
Summer Shows
Work by the best in emerging young talent will be on display at Camberwell College of Arts’ Summer Show throughout the Festival. Next door, one of London's leading contemporary art galleries, the South London Gallery, presents Heralded as the New Black by Ryan Gander. Both the Camberwell School of Art and the South London Gallery will be provide opportunities for the whole family to get involved through workshops and 'Open House'.
The Camberwell Arts Festival is a partnership between local artists and arts organisations and is initiated by Camberwell Arts, Camberwell College of Arts and South London Gallery.
