CAMBERWELL LIVE!

LUCAS GARDENS
Peckham Road, SE5
June 17
Sunday, 12 – 8pm

Refugee Week is important because it reminds us that refugees are not just statistics to be used and abused, they are living, breathing people. I am British, I was born here and I have no intention of leaving here, so I want to create a society here where compassion is built into our culture, in this society we will be so aware of the world around us that we will not need a Refugee Week. Until then this is how we do it.” Benjamin Zephaniah, Poet

Celebrate Refugee Week and be exhilarated by new voices and culture with authentic ritual dance from the high Andes of Perú, soukous music of Afro-Cuban rumba beat, South American folk, Afro beat and dub fusion, and a scintillating rich diversity of music, dance and culture with performances from the Soothsayers, Manhattan Project all-stars, Charles Boyenga, Mousa Sharififarid, Ayer y Hoy, the spectacular and celebratory music of Kinetika Bloco and the London premier of awe inspiring work from Neuvo Generacion.

Camberwell Live is a true fusion of the spirit of refugee communities in South London: making inspirational music and culture and exciting audiences with unique performances from Alem Franck, Jose Navarro, Dong Yang, The Latin American Golden Years Folk Group, Alberto Ramon and Trio Balkanika; and original and ritual dance from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Bolivia, Sierra Leone.

Exhibitions of photos and artefacts from around the world including Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Bolivia, Sierra Leone, Vietnam, Iraq and Iran as well as food and fun art activities and installations for all the family.

The event is a collaboration between Camberwell Live, Southwark Refugees Community Forum and Camberwell Arts and promotes and celebrates Refugee Week.

Camberwell Live! invites you to the free closing party at the Funky Munky with live music from 7% Solution, from 8pm-midnight
