This Midsummer you are invited to join a 24 hour urban exploration and the launch of the Camberwell Street Training Manual. From June 21 – 22 you will engage with Camberwell’s private and public spaces. You will participate in Street Training to develop your own proactive strategies around inhabiting urban streets.
Urban exploration involves Research and Intervention:
Research is wandering, talking, looking, thinking, and Intervention might include talking to strangers, drumming on street furniture, climbing trees, visiting people, being asked to leave shops, lighting a fire, sitting around, tracing magic symbols on the ground, looking out for the dog with one eye, kissing, foraging for fallen fruits, listening to the sounds of the night, shouting and smelling flowers.
You can join in for the whole 24 hours or for a short time. Bring your personal views and ways of being in the streets of Camberwell.
Visit www.malinky.org or www.camberwellarts.org.uk/festival for further details.
Supported by BBC Children In Need
Lottie Child devises urban explorations and produces guides for active engagement with urban places exchanging expertise and knowledge on the notions of freedom of movement and anti social behavior, in increasingly sanitized and controlled urban places. Research is wandering, talking, thinking; and intervention might include climbing, penetrating, playing with, nurturing, and/or pissing on encountered boundaries - physical, mental and social. This methodology has been recently used in the exhibition Guide to Risk, arttransponder Berlin; in ongoing commissions with Independent Photography, Kunstraum Linz, Pinakothek Der Moderne Munich, and Kiasma Helsinki.
