Pub Crawl takes you on a tour of some of Camberwell’s best-loved pubs to experience specially commissioned performances and installations that articulate the great British social space of The Pub and the traditions of Pub Entertainment. From A Pub Quiz turned into playful social commentary by artist Yara El-Sherbini to a storming performance from South London’s own Ukulele Club of Dulwich – and including a mysterious installation by Lottie Leedham recreating the secret societies & clubs of the past – the night ends up at the infamous Duckie Club in Vauxhall, featuring a special Camberwell Cabaret night of pub singers, cocktails and free Bar BQ.

WHAT MORE YOU COULD YOU WANT FROM A GOOD NIGHT OUT?

Pub Crawl is produced by home live art in partnership with Duckie and commissioned by Camberwell Arts to open the Camberwell Arts Festival.
All events are free except Duckie (£5), and the Pub Quiz, which is £1 to enter. Pub Crawl audiences can pick up a special pass from The Castle at 10pm, and be escorted as a group by bus to Vauxhall, which will qualify them for guaranteed entry and a free Camberwell cocktail and veggie Bar BQ at Duckie.
Other Camberwell pub entertainment on the night includes the regular disco at The Silver Buckle and Salsa Club at the Union Tavern on Camberwell New Road, so why would you want to be anywhere else but Camberwell?

Pub Crawl is supported by The Castle, The Sun & Doves, The Dark Horse, The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, Duckie.

Pub Crawl is accompanied by a series of exhibitions and events in some of Camberwell’s favourite pubs:

IT’S YOUR ROUND

Exhibition: 15–22 June 2008, 1–6pm

Leanne Bell Gonczarow, Savinder Bual, Sonya Dyer, Ian Gonczarow & Scott Martin

It’s Your Round was initiated over a pint at the Bear pub in Camberwell. The 5 artists present new work celebrating the famous British institution – the Pub.
Defined by unspoken codes of language and behaviour, pub culture extends from obscure pub signs, to the ‘invisible’ queue at the bar, pub banter, the round buying ritual and the post-smoking ban ‘smirting’ phenomenon.
The pub has been a key feature of British social and cultural life since the 11th century. Indeed, spending the evening down the local getting slowly drunk while talking about nothing with increasing conviction remains nothing short of a popular British pastime.
Last orders at the bar please!

This sound and video installation scoffs at the absurd predicament of many artists: creating artwork that nobody will ever see.
