FILM / BOOK

On the occasion of his graduate residency, Paul Maheke selects Tongues Untied (1989) by Marlon Riggs, which investigates gay black identity in New York in the late 1980s.  Tongues Untied is a semi-documentary film which seeks, in its author’s words to, “...shatter the nation’s brutalizing silence on matters of sexual and racial difference.”
