Artist Statement

The love of drawing and strong composition represent a clear, graphic style for her etchings, drypoint and linoprints and the more recent colourful screenprints, block prints on paper and fabric.

More about the artist

The love of drawing, a design sensibility and strong sense of composition are common across the different printmaking techniques that Pauline works across. Her work is clear, graphic and bold, be it an etching or drypoint, a linoprint or one of her more recent colourful screenprints or block prints on paper and fabric. Camberwell provides the creative base and much of the inspiration for her work.

The work evolves and moves on be it figurative pieces like her London trees series or the abstract repeat patterns of her block prints.

While the freedom of relief collograph printmaking is a regular technique for her, but the draw to the traditional etching on metal, the tonal technique of aquatint and the scratching and scraping of drypont are the tradtional techniques that have changed little for hundreds of years. Over the years the work has got bigger and the energy of mark making and assembling prints of different techniques has developed.

Her love of pattern and colour combined with and her design sensibilities are translated into linoprints, screenprinting (a relatively new technique for her) and blockprints. The work is joyful and rich in colour and pattern.

Plans are afoot for some more Camberwell themed work. Alas a ‘Print your own Camberwell cushion’ project has been delayed due to Covid 19 this year, but she hopes to offer it in 2021 as part of the Camberwell Arts Festival.
