Nomads' Land

Nomads' Land is a short documentary that explores the decline of the nomadic way of life in the Amazigh people of North Africa, particularly Morocco and the Sahara. The story is told through Said, who comes from a traditional Amazigh - Tuareg family that once roamed the Sahara. Subject to economic, religious and political pressure, Said has recently chosen to settle down in a village on the edge of the Sahara, an increasingly common move by nomadic Amazigh families.

Her and Her

Her & Her have been seeing each other for a few months now and are both very much in love. But they have just moved into Her small one bedroom flat and of course she’s brought the dog! Suddenly Her home is their home and the realities of their differences come to full view. Different backgrounds, cultures, upbringings, rules.

Her & Her links powerfully to the Black Lives Matter movement as it explores what life is like in 21st century London for a mixed-race, queer couple. Told partly in poetry, partly in prose, it’s also soundtracked by champion beatboxer Grace Savage.

Dir. Jade Anouka

Fast Feed

Originally created as a clip in response to the George Floyd murder - that went viral around the world - Fast Feed developed into a powerful short film that leads you through a rollercoaster of polarised views, reenacting different forms of political speech, otherwise consumed by the fast feed.

Described as the love child of Under the Skin, Black Mirror, DV8 Physical Theatre and The Social Dilemma, Fast Feed is a social science fiction film examining the polarised society that we are currently living in, and how the bombardment of information via social media is impacting the mental health of our generation.

Camberwell Free Film Festival will screen the original clip and an exclusive second clip - plus a live Q&A with the co-directors - taking you on a journey in the development of this creative movement as the creators fundraise to produce a feature length film - igg.me/at/fastfeedfilm

Camberwell Free Film Festival

Camberwell Free Film Festival is a free community programme founded in 2013 by Victor Ferreiro. Motivated by a lack of cinema venues in the area and a desire to strengthen the community and support local independent businesses, Victor set up this volunteer-run, free-to-attend annual film programme, held in the public spaces of SE5 South London.

Under the guidance of Victor, Camberwell Arts will be assisting to run the Camberwell Free Film Festival in 2020 and beyond, under the mission to support local business, strengthen community bonds and enjoy a shared love of cinema – for free.

Previous iterations of the festival have shown a wide variety of film, from cult classics and fan favourites to social histories, local investigations and stand-alone experiences. Camberwell Arts will carry on the egalitarian, communal experience of the CFFF as first created by Victor and his team:

We always think it’s important to take a chance on documentaries/films which may get forgotten by mainstream audiences. We are more than happy to show a few of those and we do that regularly. Our view is that nobody should ever be intimidated to take a chance on something different. This is very much in the spirit of what going to the cinema used to be about - it wasn’t elitist - it was about the communal experience. All the films we choose are very watchable and have a story to tell. Take a walk and look around the community where you live. Explore the architecture and places that perhaps you didn’t realise were there - and most importantly - meet the people - be curious and enjoy it! Its has to be more than just a commute to and from work.
