About Camberwell Photography A-Z map

For me an A to Z signifies a map. Back in the 90’s when I arrived in London an old fashioned mini A to Z lived in my bag for many years. It was absolutely vital when visiting friends on the other side of London. You forgot how easy it was to get lost before we had Smartphones, GPS and Google Maps.

Having lived in Camberwell for 19 years I was surprised to find subjects on the A to Z voting list that I didn’t recognise or had little knowledge of. Feeling a little embarrassed by my own ignorance I set out to improve my knowledge. If I can photograph it and write a few lines about it might stick in the old grey cells. I also won’t be the only the person living here that’s missed out on some bit of local culture or history. I thought the best way to communicate the A to Z would be to create a curated Camberwell photo map. I had a few photos in my catalogues to get me going. You’ll see a few images taken in a different time before social distancing.

Being restricted to local daily walks for exercise / shopping also forces you to be creative. It’s like a design brief back at art school. So keeping the correct 2m apart I’ve been taking pictures and exploring Camberwell. These images are then added to a map so you can explore the area from the comfort of your sofa. When the lockdown is over hopefully, you’ll have some new locations to explore. You might find some new locations to take pictures, use as portrait / video backdrops.
